I get asked specific questions all the time, both in person and on my social media platforms, so I thought it would be efficient to answer them all here!
As I get more frequent questions, I will be sure to add them to this page so that you can learn more about what it means to be Dr. G!
I was born in Dominica in the West Indies.
My family and I originally immigrated from Dominica to St. Thomas when I was three years old. We then migrated from St. Thomas to Georgia when I was six years old after losing our home to Hurricane Marilyn. The rest is history...
Although English is the official language of Dominica, much of the population also speaks Kwéyòl (Creole) – a French-based patois.
I currently do not speak Kwéyòl as fluently as I speak English. However, I am working to improve my fluency in Kwéyòl and know common conversational phrases with confidence.
𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁:
My parents did not realize how much of the language I retained growing up in Georgia. To this day, I can still translate what I hear in both languages in my head and will respond in English.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning my Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology with a minor in Education from Agnes Scott College, a small liberal arts institution in Decatur, Georgia.
I earned my Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in School Psychology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
I always wanted to work for myself and to be in the driver's seat of my life. After completing my pre-doctoral internship requirements for graduate school and securing my first full-time position as a school psychologist in the public schools, I QUIT and worked in private practice while starting and eventually scaling my business. Now I work for REACH AKG FULL-TIME!
I go into more detail about my journey from Ph.D. to CEO on my YouTube channel, Kirnel Grishby, Ph.D. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE and hit the notification bell for new uploads from Dr. G!
I am the Founder, President, and CEO of REACH AKG, an education consulting company providing family support services to individuals living with special needs.
Yes! I have three amazing children, all 22 months apart.
My health and fitness journey is constantly evolving as my body changes postpartum. My go-to tips are prioritizing eating mainly plant-based and whole foods, eliminating most meat (I eat fish) and as much dairy from my diet as possible, drinking primarily water [no soft drinks, juices, alcohol], monitoring my sugar intake, meal prepping and intermittent fasting.
As far as workouts, I love weight training to tone and transform my body. I also started incorporating 10 minute sculpting yoga workouts most mornings and long walks with my kids in the evenings!
I started collecting high-end designer handbags well over a decade ago and prefer pre-loved handbags that are both fabulous and functional, with extra emphasis on fabulous. I always enjoy shopping for new-to-me pre-loved additions to my collection on Atlanta Luxury Bags' website as well as in their showroom.
I DON'T! Because of all of the amazing things that I do on a daily basis, it is essential that I have an equally amazing team to help me grow and scale my businesses, and an even more amazing village to help me nurture and raise my family.
